Piano Lessons At Signature Sound
Play what you love
For many young piano players, motivation starts with a song they love and want to learn. They turn to YouTube and spend hours teaching themselves a piece that moved them deeply. When you find that song, time flies by and practice doesn’t feel like work. Helping students discover those songs is an important part of piano lessons at Signature Sound.
The right song does more than motivate practice—it plays a key role in helping each player discover their unique sound on the instrument. A musician’s identity is shaped by the repertoire they learn and the music that inspires them. Jacob works closely with each student to set goals and curate songs that are both enjoyable and appropriately challenging for their current level. While he encourages students to explore styles outside their comfort zone, he always makes an effort to incorporate elements of the music they already love into weekly lessons and practice routines.
A Fresh Take on Piano Lessons in Marysville
There’s nothing wrong with learning classical music or encouraging regular practice. However, without genuine personal investment from the student, piano lessons can start to feel like a chore. The whole point of music lessons is to explore something creative, exciting, and meaningful. Even for serious and highly motivated musicians, keeping the sense of enjoyment alive is essential for staying inspired and continuing to grow.
Finding a piano teacher in Arlington or Marysville that enjoys highlighting pop repertoire can be a challenge. Whether you are getting into piano to learn your favorite Billie Eillish song, or you want to venture into jazz and blues, Jacob can help you explore a variety of musical directions on the keyboard. He is also connected to some great classical teachers for advanced students interested in that route.
What You Will Learn
Is learning to read music an important goal for you? Great! That’s something you can absolutely learn in piano lessons at Signature Sound. Prefer playing by ear? That’s great too. Whether you’re into classical, jazz, rock, or funk—or you play piano on a church worship team—Jacob enjoys meeting students where they are musically.
Jacob loves working with students on songs he’s never heard before and figuring them out together. Every style of music offers technical concepts worth exploring, and there is always something new to learn in any genre. Along with learning songs, students build skills in scales, chords, ear training, and technique—tools that support long-term growth and help you play with confidence and musicality. When it comes to technical concepts, Jacob’s approach is to keep everything as relevant and connected as possible to the music you’re actually learning.
For example, if you want to learn the classic instrumental jam “Green Onions,” Jacob might introduce related concepts such as memorizing the 12-bar blues form in all keys, mastering and applying the F minor blues scale, developing rhythmic independence between both hands, practicing swing feel with a metronome, transcribing solos, and working through improvisation exercises.
