Drum Lessons At Signature Sound

Brand new or a seasoned veteran

Jacob loves working with drummers at every stage of their musical journey—from absolute beginners picking up sticks for the first time to seasoned players looking to level up. In his weekly drum lessons, students dive into essential techniques, rudiments, coordination skills, and groove development, all while learning songs that bring these concepts to life in a fun and practical way.

For more advanced players, Jacob is dedicated to helping set clear, motivating goals that spark both growth and joy behind the kit. Lessons often expand beyond drumming itself, exploring ear-training, creative approaches to writing and recording drum parts, and even the deeper philosophy behind improvisation. His aim is always to help drummers become not just better players, but more expressive and confident musicians.

Benefits of playing the drums

Just like other forms of exercise, drumming has been found to improve mental and physical health. Mindfulness and meditation are sometimes employed in therapy for people who experience depression and anxiety. Playing the drums involves deep focus that helps many people calm their minds and feel more grounded.

Learning different beats on the drums involves complex coordination and slow intentional steps towards training the limbs for each movement, so it’s amazing for your brain!

The feeling of progress and achievement on the drums is a big confidence booster. From beginner to advanced, there are always new challenges that require persistence and patience. Drumming gives you the opportunity to enhance those qualities in yourself and carry them over into other aspects of life.

Drum Lessons for Kids

Jacob has helped kids as young as six years old learn the drums. The drums are a great first instrument for kids since they are fun and they don’t require a large hand-span. Every child is different, so a trial lesson helps assess whether someone is ready to commit to lessons. Parents of students are always welcome to hang out inside to the lesson room to observe and facilitate if necessary. Complimentary hearing protection is provided!

Never Played An Instrument?

Similar to piano, drums are a great first instrument to learn. Drummers primarily focus on mastering rhythm, which is an essential component of all music. Sometimes other instruments can feel overwhelming because they can involve rhythm, melody, and harmony all at once. The rhythm and coordination skills you learn in drum lessons will help you on your journey of picking up any other instrument.
