With over 10 years of professional experience as a musician and songwriter, Jacob Thompson brings a holistic approach to learning an instrument. The drums are Jacob’s first instrument. He has played on hundreds of recordings, performed live with artists nationwide, and has been fortunate to study with numerous master drummers at the Berklee College of Music where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Drum Performance and Songwriting in 2018. Jacob began teaching himself piano and guitar in high school when he started writing his own songs. He has since had the opportunity to play both professionally and take lessons with friends and mentors on both instruments. He regularly plays guitar and piano at church and has been hired for both on recording sessions and live performances. Having the experience of performing and collaborating on these instruments helps Jacob provide context in his lessons and create meaningful musical goals with his students.
Jacob has experience playing a variety of genres including jazz, rock, funk, pop, hip hop, metal, country, and latin styles. He loves a wide variety of music and prefers to prioritize his student’s musical taste as he creates a personalized lesson plan. Every student can expect a unique and tailored approach in their lessons. Technique is an important part of playing good music, so you will learn about rudiments, motions, and posture in drum lessons. With his piano and guitar students, Jacob provides a deeper understanding of scales, chords, and coordination. He tries his best to tie in relevant techniques to whatever their goals may be. Jacob believes it all starts with fun and that initial spark to learn favorite songs or write a brand new one.
